Royal Commission reflections with Karyn Walsh AM, CEO of Micah Projects

Author: knowmore, Category: Royal Commission advocacy, Jurisdiction: National

In this video, Karyn Walsh AM, CEO of Micah Projects, shares her reflections on the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse (the Royal Commission).

Micah Projects has been supporting and advocating for survivors of institutional child abuse for over 25 years. From this unique perspective, Karyn talks about how the Royal Commission has changed how we understand and talk about child abuse in Australia.

5 years on from the end of the Royal Commission, Karyn shares her thoughts about the changes that have come out of the Royal Commission that have been most meaningful for survivors.

Karyn reflects that while there have been some important changes such as the National Redress Scheme, much more still needs to be done to meet the advocacy, healing and support needs of adult survivors across their lives.

This video was recorded as part of work being led by knowmore to acknowledge the 5th anniversary of the Royal Commission. You can see more of our Royal Commission reflections at knowmore.org.au/news/.
