What is grooming?
Grooming is when a person does things which may prepare a child for sexual activity at a later time.
Grooming can take many forms. It can involve:
- building a relationship with a child or their families or carers for the purpose of creating circumstances so that child sexual abuse can occur
- preparing a child for sexual activity with the groomer or another adult
Grooming can happen in-person or online.
The grooming itself does not always involve sexual activity or talking about sexual topics. It could be things done to prepare a child for sexual activity at a later time.
