Defamation

Defamation can be a risk when speaking out about your experience of child sexual abuse

Defamation is when a person says or writes something that identifies another person and damages their reputation. This includes things you do on social media, such as making a Facebook post or a tweet.

It can be a defence to defamation if you can prove what you said or wrote is true. This can be difficult to do.

If someone has said you are defaming them in relation to child sexual abuse, it is important to get legal advice.
